Datsun Go, Shaking up the budget car market

We already reported that Nissan was planning to to bring the dead sub brand Datsun back to life. Datsun was a sub brand which focused on developing countries like India which makes low cost cars.

When I heard the news, Datsun is going to show off its first car, I taught the car would be a bland designed car with low features. But Go totally surprised everyone f us with its trendy design which makes it look like an updated version of Micra.
Datsun Go has absolutely stunning looks for a budget hatchback. The exterior of the car is eye catching for me. The styling is very dynamic with a new flow with some borrowed bits from Micra. This car will set benchmarks in the segment for design because it is modern and sporty for a 30 year dead brand.
The interiors certainly look premium, I would say it is on par with Swift. The dashboard looks great with good colors and the knobs and buttons are well set up too. The gear-lever fixed on to the central console really adds up some space. We can squeeze a child in the middle of driver and passenger seats. Well the seats seem a bit upright and firm for me. The back seat too looks spacious for spacious than i10 and wagon r.

The features like automatic AC won’t be available on Go, but who really wants an Auto AC, here isn't much of a difference between it and a manual one. We are not sure about the availability of ABS EBD and airbags.
Nissan is powering up Go with the same 1.2 l engine from Micra. That is more than enough power for a budget car. So we can expect some good performance and driving feel from Go.
The big question is will this car sell high. Will the Indians be ready to step over Alto 800, Wagon r and i10 and choose Datsun Go. The young people under 35 will surely give checkout Datsun Go. Typical fathers of an aged family will give more preference to practicality than design. Go has practicality and design mixed up. It will take some time, but after that Go will be a huge success.
Go may even beat Maruthi Suzuki alto in sales charts. But we don’t know much about mileage, features and equipment details as they play a crucial role on the success of a car. Especially with fuel prices rising.
The car will be priced between 3 and 4 lakhs, that’s too cheap for a trendy car like go.
