Hyundai Elantra Review

Hyundai introduced the 3rd gen Elantra on 2007 but it was a disaster. For a while the executive saloon  segment was unrepresented by Hyundai. Now at 2012 Hyundai has reintroduced Elantra in its fifth gen.Hyundai is key point in advertising Elantra is that it is the north American Car of the Year 2012.

A car who is a winner in America need not be a winner in India.Because in India the tactics is different.its all about comfort space and fuel economy for Indians. So will Elantra win the hearts of Indians.lets find out.

Exterior

At first glance Elantra will win the hearts of everyone with its fluidic and hot design which flows like luxury. The stretched out headlamps and thin nose is an unique and trendy design and catch the eyes of everyone. The front of Elantra is sharply curved and long which gives it an elegant look.the hexagonal grill and the prominent Hyundai badge installed on the center represents pride. On the your eyes will blend with the strong waist lines and the window line which is curved up at the rear.the C pillar meres with the tail like on a coupe. The rear has a pitched up bumper and sporty tail lamps. On the whole the Elantra is the most handsome in its class.

Interiors and Features

The dash is finished out executrices and quality is top notch on every bit.The dashboard  has good color combination and nicely fixed on the car.The central console is stylish and has a wing shape. The AC vents are finished in metal. The steering is well planted on the car and offers plenty of grip to hold.

The Elantra is blessed with feature which are higher than its class. So on the inside you feel like being in a 25 lakh car.The Elantra is offered in 3 variants. The base variant gets high quality fabric seat upholstery, audio system with 6 speakers, and a CD player, satellite radio,I pod AUX in and USB connectivity. The next variant S is more luxurious with dual zone climate control, solar glass,Active Eco system, power steering mounted with audio controls, seat armrests and illuminated vanity mirrors. If you spend a little more you get all the goodies you need in the final variant SX comes with sporty and leather upholstered seats, an optional sunroof, power steering with blue tooth and phone book transfer, heated seats,  key less entry, touch screen infotainment system, navigation system with real time weather and traffic info and a reversing camera.

The Elantra can accommodate five adults comfortably in its cabin. It has 2700 mm of wheel base which will give you a spacious mansion inside Elantra. There in plenty of width in the airy cabin, the seats are supportive and there is enough headroom and legroom. The seats are soft and cushions you well. The only complaint would be about the under-thigh support which is not the best due to the short seat squab.Other than that Elantra is comfortable to be inside.

The boot has the capacity of 420l and the fuel tank has the capacity of 56 l which is impressive.

Performance

Hyundai has have carefully sculpted the high performing 1.8l VTVT engine. It produces 146 HP of power and 182 Nm of torque which is higher than its class. It has a top speed of 195km/h.The engine is very responsive and has a strong pick up.But it lacks the sudden response of Volkswagen Jetta or the Corolla. The engine responds well to power throttle than flatfooting.

The i.6l CRDI diesel engine is almost identical to the Verna's.It produces 126 HP of power and 259NM of torque. It has good low end grunt. The motor picks up well from even 1000rpm.Up at highways it feels a bit out of breath.Overtaking maneuvers require changing of gears. You wont feel the power of 126 HP while driving the Elantra. But engine has good acceleration and has he top speed of 190km/h.But overall it has an excellent performance.

The six speed automatic gear box is available at the S variant and the SX variant and is applicable for the diesel too.The automatic does a brilliant job at the city by make it hassle and stress free to drive. But it is slow to respond while speeding on the highways.

Ride and Handling

At the front axle there is a McPherson strut with coil springs and coupled torsion beam axles with gas type shock absorbers for a flat ride. The suspension setup is soft so the ride is quite superb at lower speeds you wont feel a thing. But as speeds increase some undulations penetrate through the suspension.

The car doesn't handle enthusiastically on the corners. The tires offer plenty of grip and the steering is responsive.Handling is academic but not as agile as some others of the segment. This is because of the body roll caused by the soft suspension. The steering feels to light at corners.

The Elantra is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels. So the brakes are great.

The Elantra guarantees safety on the road because it has so many safety features. This include ABS,EBD,ESP,VSM and 6 airbags. It also has anti theft system installed too.

The petrol gives mileage off 16.3km/l and the diesel offers 22.4kml.The mileage of the diesel is impressive.

So if you want to experience luxury on the road with an affordable price  goo and book Elantra right now.The Elantra is a good option for rich families as it is spacious and comfy.

But if you are an enthusiast and you only want speed and agility i suggest you buy the Skoda rappid which thrills you with excitement while speeding.
