Xcent semi sedan from Hyundai, Our Thoughts

Xcent
Its been few days since the launch of Hyundai Xcent. The latest entrant in the sub 4 meter sedan group. Xcent is lauched as replacement for old Hyundai Accent and it is actually the sedan model of Grand i10. Xcent's main rivals will be Honda Amaze and Swift Dzire. So can this semi sedan deliver the experience of a complete sedan? Wait and see.

The Xcent looks just like Grand i10 from the front. The car has some chrome treatments in the grille door handles and in the boot lid too.The chrome treatments look really good. Xcent feels more like a sedan than Swift Dz-ire which has got a chopped hatchback look at the rear. The hexagonal themed rear number plate is a sense of luxury. The rear lamps blend with the rest of the styling too. Overall we can say that Xcent is nearly a true sedan.

On the inside no one can beat Hyundai's elegance. The interiors are the best in class. Good beige coloring, central console with good blend and the metal finishes look good. The audio system has FM radio, blue tooth, AUX and USB connectivity and 1 GB internal storage which are best in class. the steering has Bluetooth and audio controls mounted for ease of use. The car has LED room lights in the front, rear and the boot too which may come in handy. The Air conditioner is (in full option) fully automatic FATC with rear air vents. So there is no doubt that AC is best in class too. The front seats are wide and well cushioned, the rear seats have arm rest as usual and are more accommodation than in Swift Dzire, but lacks the legroom that Amaze gives.

So in the engine front we have the 1.2 l Kappa petrol and 1.1 l U2 CRDI from the i10. the petrol engine has enough power. But the diesel engine with just 71 PS of max power is not enough at all. In the diesel model steep hill climbing will be quite troubling while traveling in full load and highway journeys won't be enthusiastic either. The suspension is better suited for low speed driving and handling is not good at high speeds. If you want a powerful diesel motor Honda Amaze with 98 PS is better. At at low speeds in the city engine is responsive and fast due ti high torque available. The petrol engine with 83 PS will do the job well as it is more light weight than the diesel and more agile.

But at low speeds the handling and ride quality of the car is just awesome. Cabin is airy and well insulated and you won't feel any body roll.

So the car is comes with a complete luxury package and for people looking for a low cost luxury car, then Xcent is the ideal choice with good styling, comfortable interiors, plenty of accessories, fine finishing and good low speed ride quality. But it will not be an enthusiasts forte. The car is priced from 4.66 to 7.19 means it is good value for money for all the features you get. The insurance is charge is RS 26000 for first year. The strong point of this sedan is good value for money.
