Tata Zest Sedan, Design Innovation for Tata

Tata has recently showcased the Zest sedan which is up for launch in June 2014. Zest is absolutely a design innovation from Tata. It looks similar to Bolt hatchback, but its styling is way better than that of Indica Manza and others. Tata has changed from their old school square designing to a much more fluid model. We expect future cars to be in this design as well.

At first look we can say that zest is definitely a Tata car and at the same time a present generation car too. Tata designers would have worked really hard to carve out this new design to the sedan. The car has a bold nose up front with pitched up grille and stretched headlights. The view from front is very stylish. We can give 4.5 out of five stars in looks.

The sedan has a good profile too. Zest has thick waist line and flared wheel arches like a present day sedan. The rear may not be stylish for all of us. Some may find it a bit bland and the rear windscreen seems too upright for a sedan. But the tail lights and chrome finishing looks good on Zest. The 16 inch alloy wheels creates a good stance for Zest. Overall Zest looks like a trademark sedan of today.

Inside the car t does not feel like Tata at all, it seems more like a Hyundai. The central console is oriented towards the driver which makes all controls easily accessible to the driver. the steering wheel, the gear lever, the ambient colors, all make the car modern. Space and comfort had been the trademark of Tata and there is plenty of space in Zest. But luggage space is only 360 liters which may not be enough.

Tata announced plenty of features for Zest including touchscreen display, voice control, navigation, Automatic AC, Bluetooth, USB , Aux in,  card reader, power windows and power rear view mirrors. Zst will also have a trip computer too.

Tata is introducing a new Revetron petrol engine to the Zest sedan. The engine makes 84 HP power coupled with 14.3 kgm of torque. So although power is 4 Hp less than Amaze and 2 HP less than Dzire, the engine will be more peppy and responsive thanks to the turbo aided torque.

The diesel engine will be the same 1.3 l mutijet engine developed by Fiat. But Tata has added a variable geometry turbo to boost the power to 89 HP and torque to 14.3 kgm, which will provide a good driving experience. The engine figures a definitely better than that of Swift Dzire, but not as much as that of Amaze. So Zest can satisfy the need for speed in highways and it will also be lag free in cities. Tata said that the diesel  model will also have automatic transmission.

So we can be sure that Zest will make a huge impact when it is launched in June. This car will be a big competitor for Honda Amaze, Swift Dzire and the new Hyundai Xcent. Zest provides good styling, plenty of features, comfort and a powerful engine units too. So Zest is a complete package.

We don't know anything about exact price it will be between 6 lakhs and 8.5 lakhs. So lets wait till June and see what happens.
