We have already showed you some spy
shots of Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in India. Here are some
more spy shots taken from Pune. The cars spotted include Jeep
Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Two models of Wrangler was spied one
long wheel base version and one regular one along with a Grand
Cherokee. These spy shots must be signs of a launch closing in.
The Grand Cherokee spied is of course
the recently face-lifted one launched internationally a month ago.
The Wrangler is actually th same iconic world war II Jeep which was
used for military purposes, now sold to public.
Jeep is USA s home SUV manufacture,
Jeep SUV s are famous for their elegant and glorious DNA. Currently
Jeep brand is owned by a team. Fiat and Chrysler. Fiat has officially
announced that in 2013 December they will launch the Jeep models in
India by 2014. Cars slated for launch were Wrangler and Grand
Cherokee. Grand Cherokee will the the first car to enter Indian
market followed by Wrangler. Both regular and long wheel base
Wrangler will be sold in India.
Jeep is going to showcase the new Jeep
Liberty renamed as Jeep Cherokee at Geneva motor show at Tuesday.
There is high chance for the new Cherokee to be added to the Indian
line up too.
Jeep will have to specially re-tune the
diesel engine for India as diesel used in India is different from
diesel used in US. It has more sulfur content and is not as refined
as diesel in US. So Fiat may be testing whether the diesel engine and
the suspension system is fit for Indian conditions.
Indian spec Grand Cherokee is expected
to be powered by a 3.8 l V6 diesel engine accompanied by a petrol
engine later. Jeep claims the new diesel engine to be more powerful
and efficient too. The new Grand Cherokee diesel roughly obtains 13
km of mileage. Its main rivals will be the Mercedes Benz M class,
Audi Q5 and BMW X3. Government has recently increased the import
duties via CBU route from 75% to 100%. Unfortunately Jeep models will
be imported through this route. The double te actual cost of the SUV
have to be payed. We can expect a price tag from 50 to 60 lakhs.
The Wrangler will be powered by a 2.8 l
diesel producing 200 HP of power and 410 Nm of torque and will be
priced around 40 lakhs.
