Tata Nano CNG Version Spied coming in mid 2013

Tata nano was severely hit by the hike of petrol prices. Tata nano diesel is still a long time to go. So to keep sales alive at least in cities Tata will launch the CNG version in the middle of 2013.

We recently spotted a CNG version Nano Test driving on the Mumbai Pune Express Way.

The evidence that proves that the tested nano is CNG is the green three leaf logo at the side which generally means CNG version. As CNG is more environment friendly and non pollutant.

The rear bumper is been tweaked a bit to accompany CNG kit in the rear. There are vents on the peer side of the bumper which were not there for the petrol nano. It suggest that the CNG kit will be placed above the petrol engine and the vents offer better cooling.

Tata showcased the Nano CNG with a 35 l fuel tank at Auto Expo 2012.  In it the CNG kit was under the front seats to keep the available  boot space.

The version on production will have a 17 l fuel tank. The CNG version will have a toggle button to switch between fuels. For Extra safety engine ECU circuit will be cut off if fuel leakage is detected.

The car will slightly under power in the CNG mode. But it will hard no notice in the city.

We expect the nano to have a regular venturi CNG KIT. The CNG will cost just about RS 20000 more than the petrol one. If Tata used sequential kit the gas input will be varied according to the throttle response. So CNG mode will be as peppy as he petrol one. But sequential kit is more expensive.

The CNG is only available in limited parts of India like Delhi, Mumbai, some parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Hariyana. The CNG kit will surely boost nano sales in the city. But will be of no avail in rural areas.

Last December Tata just sold 2000 units of nano which is not enough. If sales won't boost up with the CNG too Tata may have to plug out nano project.
