We have been waiting for he launch of Eco Sport in India for a long time.Now Ford has put Eco sport in their website for India.Rumors are spreading that this car will be launched in February 14th.But Ford has not confirmed that yet.The Eco sport has some new special features applied to it.The most special about Eco sport is its 1 l Eco boost petrol engine which provides the power of a 1.6 l petrol engine and delivers the efficiency of a 1 l engine.
We have taken a short test drive of Eco sport in Brazil.Lets see how that comes out.
So far we have only seen Eco sport in digital forms, when you see that mini SUV in real world you will just love it.the thin grille with ford logo is embedded neatly on the nose.The sleek headlamps are pretty merged with the grille.Under that there is a big hexagonal mouth for air intake which lets you remember this is an SUV.The bumper is shaded in black while the side skirts and rear bumper is also black, this shows Eco sports off roading potential..The fog lamps look like a sniper who is tempting you towards the car.
When you look from the sides you will notice the flared wheel arches which add some rigidness and muscle to the Ford Eco Sport.The window line tends to curve up a bit at the rear followed by the waistline.The large 16 inch alloy wheels says that this car is well equipped to handle rough.
The wrapped around rear windscreen and the thick C pillar merges well.The tailgate is quite large and extends down to the bottom.So it will be easy for you to load stuff on to the boot.The Ford Eco sport has a decent 360 l of boot space.The spare wheel is mounted to the tailgate which further exaggerates the sportiness of the SUV.The rear gets wrapped around tail lamps which are eye catching for sure.But you may get partially cut down and boxy feeling while looking at Eco sport from the rear.
But overall the Eco sport is just fantastic to look at.The Eco sport is an unique SUV.It has sleek and aerodynamic design than the rather chunky other SUVs.But you will realize from the first glance that Ford Eco Sport is an SUV.
When you step on the cabin you will find that similar to the cabin of the new Ford Fiesta.Ford has added a little more funkiness to the Eco sport rather than the Fiesta's elegant Cabin.The silver accent on the lower dashboard looks really nice.The air vents are more triangular than the oval ones in the Fiestas.
The steering is thin and easy to hold.The switches and knobs on the dash feels top notch and are of high quality. Only high rated plastics are used in the cabin which feels nice and mushy to touch.
The front doors are wide, you can easily get in.once you sit on the driver seat you get a good view of the outside due to the high seats.Even tall drivers will get sufficient legroom and headroom.
It is hard to get in through the narrow rear doors of Eco sport.But once you get in get a spacious and comfortable rear seat.You may find that legroom is bit toght on the rear but it wont matter you that much.
The car has some top level features too.The Microsoft Voice control feature similar to that of the Fiesta is available on Eco Sport.You can control the volume, dial to your home, play your favorite track and adjust climate control by just pressing the Voice activation on switch on the steering and dictating.
The other features include climate control, blue tooth connectivity, audio system with USB connectivity,auto headlamps, auto wipers, driver assist and many more.
The car get safety feature like dual airbags, and of course ABS and EBD.You also get parking assist and hill start assist.
Now the important aspect of an SUV is how it performs!Ford cars have never disappointed us in terms of performance. The car is an absolute blast when riding it through Brazilian highways.The 1 l engine sure delivers the power of a 1.6, while Eco sport pulls up 1200kg of cock weight effortlessly.Step on the pedal and the car will continue to speed up smoothly.The car is pretty responsive on midrange and also in top end.You can reach 100km mark in just 11.2 seconds.I just felt like I want to keep on driving the Eco sport in the 140s.
The steering is fantastic, it responds well to quick lane changes.The brakes can halt the car to a stop easily.We decided to take a small twisty windy road to check the cars.I forgot the fact that Eco sport is a SUV because i couldn't not feel any body roll for 1.67 meters of height.The steering is light and feels well connected to the road.You get the excellent feed back from the EPS steering just like in a hydraulic unit.
The Eco sport handles like a GT hatch on the corners.While cornering hard the tires offer plenty of grip, and almost tempts you to go faster.You can even corner at speeds above 100 with ease.you don't need to be afraid of speed as the brakes get the car to a stop in a hiccup.
I decided to slow pace a bit to check on the ride quality.The car handles the small undulations of the highway with ease.But when you reach a broken road with big potholes and bumps you will get uncomfortable.The undulations pierce through the stiff suspension easily.But Ford will tamper the suspension while launching the Eco sport in India to to get more focus on ride.
Ford Eco sport delivered average of 16km/l on our ride in Brazil which consisted of driving through congested city and speeding through highways.The aerodynamic design and the Eco boost petrol engine helped to give such an impressive mileage for a 120 Hp Eco sport.The Eco sport obtains good mileage in the city compared to other cars.
We don't know the exact prices in which Eco sport is launched in India.if Ford keeps the price between 7 to 10 lakhs Eco sport is sure to be a the successful ford car in India.
But one question remains.Ford Eco sport is an SUV but only offers 5 seats and decent space.So is Eco sport a piratical option for Indians.Please write your opinion on the comments.
