Skoda new Octavia will replace the
current Laura in 2014. Skoda has officially revealed the Indian
version of Octavia. Skoda launched the Octavia back in 2000. It was
a huge hit at that time. The second generation was called Laura. But
back then many new rivals came in and competition was tight. The
latest entrant in the segment is Hyundai Elantra. So it is time that
Skoda launch the new Octavia in India.
new Skoda Octavia Front View |
Skoda means shear build quality , good
amount of space and great pricing. The key behind Skoda success are
these principles. Skoda has applied this to the new Octavia as well.
The new Octavia will be in Europe by march and we can expect it in
India at may or June.
New Skoda Octavia Side view |
The new 3rd gen Octavia is based on the
Vision D concept. Although it looks similar to the European Skoda
Rappid it looks more larger. The new Octavia gets a more bolder and
cleaner exterior which is set in Skodas new design tactics. Fine bold
lines flow from the bonnet to the the Skoda logo and to the ends of
the grille as well to give Octavia a chiseled look. The grille
resembles wing shape and looks very Skoda like. The rectangle shaped
headlamps are designed clean without too much funkiness. The new fog
lamps and the bumper are cleanly carved out to give a luxurious feel.
Skoda Octavia Dashboard |
On the sides the elegant lines flow
beautifully and the scooped up window line at the rear door gives new
Octavia some Solitary feel. The new five spoke alloy wheels gives the
car a sporty but composite profile. The rear has unique C shaped
wrapped around tail lamps and the rest of the rear is sculpted
cleanly. Overall the elegant styling of the Skoda Octavia is
overwhelming and it looks luxurious too. The new Octavia has a long
lasting design which is more blending and sharper than a regular
Skoda.
The new Octavia is based on the
Volkswagens ultra flexible MQB platform which uses variable length
width and wheel base. The chassis, transmission box and the steering
column are only fixed. The new Octavia is 90 mm longer and 45 mm
wider than the old Laura. Wheel base has increased by a considerable
108 mm which will surely provide a spacious cabin.
Step on the cabin and you will be
surprised with the increased space.. There is plenty of legroom and
headroom in the rear. The seats are angled and cushioned well. The
seats are much softer and feels good to sit. The only problem you
find will be the insufficient under thigh support due to the low seat
squabs.
New Skoda Octavia Rear View |
The dashboards simple and nicely carved
out too. Quality is top notch on everything inside the cabin.
- Octavia is loaded up with some modern safety features. They are:
- Lane Assist which warns you when you are out of the lane.
- Automatic Braking system to avoid multiple collision.
- Fatigue detection system
- adaptive cruise control
- Traffic sign recognition
- Intelligent headlamps which auto switches between high beam and low beam.
- And a massive 9 airbags
The Octavia has shed 85 kg of weight on
its arrival to 2013. due to the use of high tensile steel through out
the body. This helps for much better performance and mileage in
Octavia. The Octavia will be available in 4 engine options. The base
petrol is the 1.4 petrol engine which produces 140 HP of power. The
1.8 TSI engine has been tweaked by Skoda to give max power of 175 HP.
The diesel options will be 2.2 l diesel with 140 HP and 160 Hp
receptively. Skoda is planing to launch the 1.6 l diesel with 105 HP
in the future. Skoda may also launch the VRS version of the petrol
and diesel engine in India in near future.
Octavia will be more competitively
priced with 12 to 15 ankhs of price range. Octavia is available in
plenty of engine models to choose from. Octavia is priced well too at
the starting point of D+ segmented. So overall Octavia is more like a
personal car to Indians and others in the segment better watch out.
