2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI unveiled before Geneva

Volkswagen GOlf GTI

Volkswagen Golf GTI is one of the popular Volkswagen cars worldwide. Volkswagen has revealed the production variant of the car with images and specs before the Geneva motor show where the car is going to be showcased officially. The new 7th gen GTI figures some changes over the current car. The concept variant was
launched back on September 2012.

Major changes are made to the mechanicals than the skin. The new Golf GTI is offered in two engine options Regular and Performance option. The car is powered by the 2.0 l turbocharged engine which produces 220 HP of power in regular variant and 230 HP of power in the performance variant. Both these variants have max torque of 350 Nm. The cars use 6 speed manual or the dual clutch 6 speed automatic gearbox.

There is not much difference between the power figures of the regular and performance variant. The acceleration speeds are identical too. The Golf GTI  regular version just takes6.5 seconds to reach 100 km while performance version reaches there in 6.4 seconds. So just 0.1 seconds difference. The regular version has a top speed of 246 km/h while performance version  can do 250 km/h. It is the first time for Volkswagen to have two versions for Golf GTI.

The new Golf GTI has a featured body kit which contains rear diffuser, sporty seats steering wheel and pedals and side sills. The Golf GTI runs on 17 inch R225 45 tires. The regular version has front disc brakes while the performance version has all disc brakes. The kerb weight of the car is about 1351 kg.

The Golf GTI regular version obtains 16.67 km/l with manual and automatic delivers 15.52 km/l of mileage. The performance version obtains 1653 km/l with the manual and 15.38 km/l with automatic option. So golf is pretty efficient for its 200 + HP of power.

Volkswagen has not yet said anything about launching the Golf GTI in India. They doubt buyers for a GTI hatch in India. The Golf GTI roughly costs about 20 lakhs of INR (28550 Euro). That is not very pricy for a 230 HP car. Mercedes is planning to launch the A class in India y the end of 2013 and BMW is also planning 1 series launch too in the 20 lakhs price tag.

So there is some potential in the Indian market for Golf GTI. Golf GTI will have a superior advantage over Mercedes and BMW in horsepower. So we can expect the launch of Golf GTI some time in 2015 may be after the Indian market is more developed. Lets first see how the A class and 1 series performs in India.
