A new trend is rising in the car
market. At present three is a huge demand rising for Mini SUV s. But
many off the car manufactures have no time to come up with a new mini
SUV. So some of them make some tweaks to their existing hatchbacks
for quick results. Volkswagen Cross Polo and Skoda Fabia Scout are
worldwide examples for that.
Now Volkswagen will show off the cross over version of their cross hatch called Volkswagen UP. The Cross up concept was exposed at 2011 Frankfurt Motor show. Now the production model of the Cross up will be showcased at 2013 Geneva motor show. It would be on sale in US and Europe by June.
The Cross up is just the same Volkswagen
up rugged with an off-roding kit. The cross up gets black cladding at
the bottom as a symptom for its off roding capabilities. The cross
up has more ground clearance and height as well to tackle rough
surfaces. The roof rails helps the car to attain a SUV stance. The
massive 16 inch alloy wheels mens that this car is an able off roder.
Any way will a hatchback with an
off-roding kit be a complete Mini SUV? Does it get the SUV feel as in
other SUV s?Will there be any buyers for these cars? These questions
needs to be resolved.

The Cross up however gets the same
engine and the transmission set up from the UP hatchback. The 1.0 l
petrol engine produces 74 Hp of power and the same 5 speed manual
transmission. The suspension set up is the same without any tweaks.
The interiors of the Cross up also hosts some few changes. The AC
vents and meter console is chrome finished. The gear lever, steering
wheel and handbrake lever is now leather wrapped. The seats and the
dashboard gets either dark grey or red colors according to your
choice.
The price of Cross UP is almost 14000
Euro which is about 10 lakh INR. But we don't need to worry about
pricing as the UP cross over when locally assembled in India will be
significantly cheaper than that.
There is a huge potential in Indian
market for a cheap Mini SUV. So Volkswagen might launch the Cross Up
as the cheapest mini SUV in the Indian market to attract customer. We
can expect Coriss Up in 2014 in India with price around 5 to 6 lakhs.
