Toyota Etios was launched in India in
2011. Since then the Etios was selling decently and had good response
from the customers. But the Etios was not enough to overthrow Swift
Dzire from being the top seller. The Etios although practical lacked
styling and seemed to look a bit old.
But we have spied the next gen Toyota
Etios test driving in Thailand. In Thailand the Etios is known as
Vios which is almost same as Toyota Etios sold in India. The new gen
Etios Liva hatch known as Yaris was also spied earlier in Thailand.
The old Vios was not a well
proportioned sedan. It looked too boxy and the rear seemed like a
hatch with a stubbed boot. The new Vios test mule spied has some
considerable changes. The car is more round and current gen with
sharp fenders on the side. The C pillar is redesigned which reduces
the stubbed boot feel. The sedan gets a new appealing front grille
which is in trapezoidal shape. The headlamps of the the test mule are
more narrow and sharper. The new round eagle eyed fog lamps add to
the cars sharpness. The tail lamps of the test-mule are wrapped
around which merges well with the profile lines.
The interiors of the test mule are also
updated. The engine will be the same 1.5 l which produces 109 HP.
Transmission will be either 4 speed Automatic or 5 speed manual with
some tweaks. The new Vios will be on production by July but it won't
be the next gen Toyota Etios in India. Toyota may udate the Etios
some time in 2014 and it would be styled similar to the Vios spotted.
